The Hobart Hurricanes have made a notable addition to their squad by signing senior New Zealand batter Suzie Bates as an overseas replacement player for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Bates, who previously played for the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, and Perth Scorchers, was not selected in the WBBL draft but is set to fill the void left by England's Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Wyatt-Hodge will be unavailable for the latter part of the tournament due to her commitment to the national team during their tour of South Africa.
As the highest run-scorer in T20 internationals, Bates brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Hurricanes' lineup. Salliann Beams, the General Manager of High Performance at the Hurricanes, expressed enthusiasm about her signing: "Bringing Suzie into our WBBL squad was an obvious choice once we learned she was not picked in the WBBL|10 Draft. Her availability and expertise make her the perfect replacement for Danni."
Beams further emphasized Bates's credentials, stating, "With over 130 T20 World matches under her belt, Suzie will provide invaluable experience when we lose a player of Danni's caliber."
